Align Icon in JLabel

With this tutorial we shall show you how to align Icons in JLabel. This is a very easy optimization you can perform to your JLabel.

Basically in order to align Icon in JLabel, one should follow these steps:

  • Create a class that extends JFrame.
  • Create a new ImageIcon.
  • Create a new JLabel and use new JLabel(icon, JLabel.CENTER) to set the Icon to the label and center it.
  • Use add to add the label to the frame.

Let’s see the code snippet that follows:

package com.javacodegeeks.snippets.desktop;

import java.awt.FlowLayout;

import javax.swing.ImageIcon;
import javax.swing.JFrame;
import javax.swing.JLabel;

public class AlignIconInJLabel extends JFrame {

	private static final long serialVersionUID = 1L;

	public AlignIconInJLabel() {

		// set flow layout for the frame
		this.getContentPane().setLayout(new FlowLayout());

		// create an ImageIcon from the specified file
		ImageIcon icon = new ImageIcon("images/label.jpg");

		// create a center aligned label (horizontal alignment)
		JLabel label = new JLabel(icon, JLabel.CENTER);

		// add label to frame
		add(label);

	}

	private static void createAndShowGUI() {

  //Create and set up the window.

  JFrame frame = new AlignIconInJLabel();

  //Display the window.

  frame.pack();

  frame.setVisible(true);

  frame.setDefaultCloseOperation(JFrame.EXIT_ON_CLOSE);

    }

	public static void main(String[] args) {

  //Schedule a job for the event-dispatching thread:

  //creating and showing this application's GUI.

  javax.swing.SwingUtilities.invokeLater(new Runnable() {

public void run() {

    createAndShowGUI();

}

  });
    }

}

This was an example on how to align Icon in JLabel.
