List Key strokes example
In this example we are going to see how to list all Key Strokes in Java. This is very useful when you want to inform users of the application or the client code about all available key strokes.
Basically all you have to do in order to list key strokes, one should follows these steps:
- Create an input device like a
JButton
. - Use
JButton.getInputMap(JComponent.WHEN_IN_FOCUSED_WINDOW)
call in order to get anInputMap
that contains all the key strokes that can be bundled with this component. - Use
InputMap.keys()
,InputMap.allKeys()
to get all the key codes. - Use the
InputEvent
andKeyEvent
masks to convert key codes into string in order to print it to the output.
Let’s see the code:
package com.javacodegeeks.snippets.desktop; import java.awt.event.InputEvent; import java.awt.event.KeyEvent; import javax.swing.Action; import javax.swing.InputMap; import javax.swing.JButton; import javax.swing.JComponent; c++) { keyTotString(keyStroke); while (m.get(keyStroke) == null) { m = m.getParent(); } if (m.get(keyStroke) instanceof String) { String act = (String) m.get(keyStroke); } else { Action act = (Action) m.get(keyStroke);
