Convert HashSet to Object array example

With this example we are going to demonstrate how to convert a HashSet to an Object array. In short, to convert a HashSet to an Object array you should:

  • Create a new HashSet.
  • Populate the hashSet with elements, using add(E e) API method of HashSet.
  • Invoke toArray() API method. This method returns an array containing all of the elements in this set. If this set makes any guarantees as to what order its elements are returned by its iterator, this method must return the elements in the same order. The method must allocate a new array even if this set is backed by an array. The caller is thus free to modify the returned array.

Let’s take a look at the code snippet that follows:

package com.javacodegeeks.snippets.core;

import java.util.HashSet;

public class HashSetToArrayExample {

  public static void main(String[] args) {

    // Create a HashSet and populate it with elements
    HashSet hashSet = new HashSet();
    hashSet.add("element_1");
    hashSet.add("element_2");
    hashSet.add("element_3");

    // Object[] toArray() method returns an array containing all of the elements in this set
    Object[] objArray = hashSet.toArray();

    System.out.println("Elements in Array :");
    for(int i=0; i < objArray.length ; i++)

System.out.println(objArray[i]);
  }
}

Output:

Elements in Array :
element_1
element_2
element_3

This was an example of how to convert a HashSet to an Object array in Java.
